Who inspired you?
My mother inspired my storytelling. That is why I dedicated my first book to her. As kids, when we would drive from Nova Scotia to Ontario, to visit my grandparents, she would tell us Iggly Piggly adventure stories, and they were great!
Will there be a fifth or sixth book?
All I can say right now is there will be a fourth book because I just finished writing the third, The Invasion. Sometimes I don’t know what will happen. I wait to see where the plot takes me . . .
Are you a celebrity?
It depends what your definition of a celebrity is . . . I am not famous—yet— but quite a few people have bought my book or are reading it, so that makes me happy!
Where can I buy your book?
On my website, there are places listed which sell my book (like Amazon, Indigo, Barnes & Noble etc…). Amazon seems to be able to deliver it in just one day!
How long have you been an author?
This is my first book—so about a year!
How do you feel about your book, The After?
It makes me happy when kids write me about how much they enjoyed the book! I like the two female protagonists. They are strong characters.
How was your day?
I really enjoyed meeting the two grade five classes from St. Joseph's. The students asked great questions and were a terrific audience!

Why haven’t I seen your novel in bookstores.
Great question! I am in a few independent bookstores, but mostly back east in Nova Scotia. I chose for people who are interested in getting my book to be able to order it on-line (for example-from Amazon & Indigo) because on-line sales seem to be more popular these days.
Did your hands hurt after all that writing?
I actually type my stores on a laptop, and I am quite fast (40+ words per minute)
How old is the dog in the novel, The After?
Spencer has been with Charlotte’s family for many years, but I didn’t specifically mention his age; however, he is a VERY important character in the book!
Why did you choose to be a teacher?
I have been teaching for over 30+ years and I still love it! Being around kids and sharing their excitement for learning . . . well, there isn’t anything better!
Why did you make this book?
During Covid, I had a lot of time to think. The pandemic inspired me.
Can you make a story about Charlotte’s kids?
Great idea! But first she will have to meet someone (who doesn’t have the virus), fall in love and get married. I would need to write a lot of books before that would happen because she is only 14 and because of the virus, people are staying away from each other.

Is your book a true story?
No, the storyline and the characters are fiction; however, some of my ideas have come from what people experienced during the pandemic.
How long did it take you to write The After?
It took me about six months to write, and I wrote every day.
At what age did you start to LOVE books?
I was in grade three when I began to really LOVE books! My favourite books were Nancy Drew mysteries.
Why did you live in the Arctic?
I wanted a teaching job and the NWT Government (at the time) offered me one. So, I bought a husky and moved to Resolute Bay.
When will the third book be out?
I am hoping The Invasion will be out in the fall of 2025.
From November 25 to 29th, J. Taylor visited over eighteen classes in Nova Scotia. She discussed the writing and publishing process and read a chapter from The After- leaving bookmarks, stickers and pins behind for students.
